Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I’m eligible for traffic school?
Generally, you’re eligible if you have a one-point moving violation (like speeding or running a stop sign) and haven’t attended traffic school in the last 18 months. Your court will confirm your eligibility when you handle your ticket.
How often can I take traffic school in California?
Once every 18 months, based on the date of your violation.
Can I take traffic school if I have a commercial driver’s license?
Only if the ticket was received while driving a non-commercial vehicle.
What tickets don’t qualify for traffic school?
DUIs, misdemeanors, equipment violations, and parking violations like handicap zone tickets are not eligible.
I already paid my fine. Can I still do traffic school?
Yes, as long as your court has approved traffic school for your ticket and you complete it before the deadline.
Can out-of-state drivers take this course?
Yes, if your ticket was issued in California and your court allows online completion.
What does the course cover?
11 sections on California traffic laws, defensive driving, road safety, driver responsibilities, and more. See the full list on our Course Overview page.
Is this course DMV-licensed?
Yes. Our course meets California’s DMV requirements for traffic school.
Can I do the whole thing on my phone?
Yes. The course works on phones, tablets, and computers.
Do I have to finish in one sitting?
No. Your progress saves automatically. Log in and out whenever you want.
Do I need any special software?
No. Just an internet connection and a browser.
What identity verification is required?
You’ll need to verify your Date of Birth and the last 4 characters of your Driver’s License Number before starting the course and again before the final exam. This is required by the California DMV to confirm the registered student is the one completing the course.
How do the quizzes work?
Each section has a short 3-question quiz. You need to pass to move to the next section. You can retake them as many times as you need.
What about the final exam?
25 multiple-choice questions. You need 70% to pass. It’s open-book, so you can reference the course material while taking it. You have 60 minutes to complete it.
What if I fail the final exam?
You get a second attempt with a different set of exam questions. Just click the “Try Again” button on the results screen and you’ll be taken to your second exam.
What happens if I fail both exam attempts?
Your account will be locked and you will not be able to retake the course with us. Per California DMV requirements, you would need to re-enroll in a different traffic violator school to fulfill your court requirement.
What is the course evaluation?
After passing the final exam, you’ll be asked to complete a short evaluation form — just enter your first and last name. This is a DMV requirement before your course completion can be processed.
What happens after I click “Complete Course”?
You’ll receive a completion confirmation email with your receipt, and your account will be closed. Your completion is then reported to the DMV, which forwards it to your court.
Can I log back in after completing the course?
No. Once you complete the course, your account is closed per DMV requirements. Your completion confirmation email serves as your receipt — make sure to save it.
What information is on my completion receipt?
Your receipt includes the school name and license number, your name and address, Driver’s License number, citation number, county, completion date, and the fee paid.
How long does it take for my completion to be reported?
Please allow 7–10 business days for your completion to be processed and reported to the DMV and your court.
How long do I have to finish?
Your deadline is set by your court, usually 60–90 days from when you pay your fine. Check your citation or court paperwork for the exact date. Our course doesn’t expire on our end.
What happens after I pass?
After you pass the exam and submit the course evaluation, we report your completion electronically to the DMV, which then reports to your court. You’ll get a confirmation email with a receipt.
Will traffic school keep the point off my record?
Yes. Once completed on time, the point is masked from your public driving record and your insurance company won’t see it.
How much does the course cost?
$18. That’s everything — the course, quizzes, final exam, and completion reporting.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, if you haven’t started the course. Once you begin accessing the course content, refunds are not available.
